Portreath to Perranporth

Sorry this is late but we had no internet at all last night. We did, however, find a very sheltered site and were not battered by the strong winds.

I had a great day; walked along the coastpath to St. Agnes Head and then to the Beacon, from where you can see all of Cornwall. Bumped into Bernie on my way to the town. We had not arranged to meet so it was quite eerie.

Perranporth
From Bernie:
  • welcome home Dr & Mrs Morley!
  • momentarily considered driving to Scotland & doing this walk the other way round having spent most of today walking into a gale!
  • today was supposed to be a short & gentle stroll after yesterday's lengthy battle with the rain but in the end it was much tougher - finished shattered & I've already had a sleep!

Porthtowan

  • today's walk 11.9 miles : Cumulative 52.7 miles
  • after 4 days we're still on schedule!
  • highlight, undoubtedly, the exploration of mining remains around Porthtowan, St. Agnes & Cligga Head: many of the shafts have been 'plugged' or 'made safe' since my visit on the coastal walk & bear name-plaques making the sites much easier to make sense of. Spent ages here when I could have been battling the wind!
  • beer of the day turned out to be a cider! First pub we stopped at was 'Under New Management' & had no real ales; at the second I sampled Healey's cloudy 'Cornish Rattler'..... much better than it looks!
  • To Stuart: read all the match reports on the Internet this morning - your run against Arsenal had to come to an end sometime: have you thought that your team might just be trying to make it look exciting?!?
