Up bright and early this morning, ready to send the walker on his way. Forecast was for light rain at 07.00 and sunny intervals for the rest of the day. We arranged to meet in Padstow and after trying to blog I would walk with him to Wadebrige along the Camel Trail - a walk I have done with the kids and also ridden in the pouring rain with them and Jamie's German guest.
Blogging wasn't easy this time as we tried to do it on my Blackberry but I deleted it twice by accident! In the end it was a race against the battery giving up before we blogged! What a time for the computer to decide that it has an old battery!
Padstow is very upmarket and I couldn't believe how much the bakery wanted to charge me for a pasty! It was scrummy though. Sorry Pam there didn't seem to be any green boathouse doors; it was amazingly busy for a weekday in May.
We are at a smashing campsite with excellent facilities and great views - however no-one seems to be about. A gardener told us just to hook up and see if we could find someone to pay in the morning!

From Bernie:
Earliest start yet: walking by 8.15 am..... just in case the owners changed their minds & decided to charge us!
Trevone
Today's walk 16.3 miles : Cumulative 93.3 miles
Quiet lanes, mostly gentle coastal cliff-top path & a disused railway line.
Highlight: walk along the disused railway line beside the Camel estuary between Padstow & Wadebridge.... hence the Camel Trail (sorry, no camels - and I was asked about that once!). I've walked this 4 or 5 times & this was the first time I remember it being quiet enough to concentrate on the views rather than walk in fear of being mown down by hired bicycles, tricycles & carriages driven by once-a-year enthusiasts - actually there were quite a few cyclists but, today, we were all in control!
Beer of the day: A pint of 'Tinners' (St. Austell) at 'The Old Custom House' in Padstow - an old favourite & still a good beer.
'The Old Custom House', Padstow
Second barbecue of the quest - a pack of unlabelled but quite interesting sausages we brought with us & some minted lamb chunks from Tesco's in Padstow!
Today was supposed to be a rest day so we are really a day ahead of schedule..... but, so far, we have been blessed with mostly good walking weather.
David: thanks for the donation,
Glen & David; Lisa, John & Bump: thanks for the comments
Nathan: read your comments about the photos & realised how lucky we've been with the weather so far! Glad you like them!
Anonymous: you've destroyed my illusions with your comments about glue... but you must realise I'll never touch one of those rock sculpures in case it collapses & I can't put it back together!
Hi Bernie youre looking well pleased to see the knees holding up.Very jealous of you sampling all the real ales(no need for you to go to a beer fesyival!)Anyway up the Ammers they can still do it.

ReplyDeleteGood to know you didn't get blown away - in more ways than one!
