Postscripts from The Peak District (19) - Grindon & Wettonmill

Catch-Up 2 - Friday 12th July!

Lots to do later but a couple of spare hours this morning so drove to Grindon, a small village about 5 miles north-east of Ipstones overlooking the Manifold Valley

Another gloriously warm day!

 All Saints Church, Grindon

A huge spire & a handy landmark on walks across these moorlands
Nicknamed 'Cathedral of the Moorlands' but it's probably a bit small for that!

Grindon had a pub until recently but, alas, no more! Still, it has its own Pinfold....!

... & that is where this sheep should have been instead of blocking our way! Far too warm for it today, we had to ease it away from the stile so we could cross!

Thor's Cave (see Postscript 2), below Wetton village & on the opposite side of the Manifold Valley
We were heading down, steeply, through the trees to the valley bottom
 Wettonmill

Not sure how I managed to take this photo without it being full of kids!
A Uttoxeter school was doing a Charity Walk today, the café here was just over half-way & a staging point!

Now there's a familiar sight.... Les, I mean!

Onecote village, about half way between us & Grindon, does have a pub & very fine it is, too! It's been 'The Jervis Arms' since 1834 & was probably named after local landowners from Stone - another 180 years should see me OK!
